Why a CPET?

Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing

The long-term implications of COVID-19 on the heart and blood vessels are poorly understood. By gathering data on your heart’s function and breathing activity while at rest and during exercise, Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) may help researchers identify heart abnormalities and exercise limitations as it relates to those with and without COVID-19.

Why an EndoPAT?

Endothelial Function Testing

Early research suggests that some COVID-19 patients experience endothelial dysfunction post infection. Endothelial function plays a large role in regulating blood pressure, blood flow, and clotting throughout your body. The EndoPAT, a non-invasive test that measures blood flow through your arteries, allows researchers to quickly assess the function of your endothelium. Monitoring endothelial function can help identity those who have a higher risk of heart disease, other vascular complications, as well as possibly identify patterns among patients who have suffered from COVID-19.

Why an Echo?

Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram is a noninvasive test that uses an advanced ultrasound monitor to take images of your heart and heart valves from various angles. Researchers will use these images from patients with and without COVID-19 to associate the relationship between persistent cardiovascular symptoms (such as shortness of breath, chest pain, reduced ability to exercise, and excessive fatigue after exercise) with how well your heart is able to complete the multi-step process of beating and supplying enough blood to the rest of your body.
